Kreatively is more than just a Digital Marketplace
— It’s a Way of Life!
Behind the Brand
For the longest time I thought success was a linear process; go to school, get a good job, find a partner, buy a house, have kids, etc. This couldn’t be further from the truth for me.
My name is Curtis Townsend and I am a designer (in the loosest sense of the term), but a designer nonetheless. I didn’t graduate from Rhode Island School of Design, FIT, FIDM, or Pratt.
To date, the only formal design education I received was a year’s worth of introductory design courses like, 2D & 3D Design, Color Theory in Design, and intro to Photoshop & Illustrator from my local community college. Beyond that, I earned my design chops from YouTube University.
How I Arrived at the Place
With no real direction, I kind of ‘wandered through each charter’d street…’ of my life aimlessly; without purpose. It was so bad at one point I experienced short periods of homelessness.
It took 26 years for my head to pop out of my ass but when that happened, my life took off like a rocket. So much so, that after period of said homelessness, I pulled myself up by my bootstraps and got into Harvard. Yep, you read that right. I went from living in my car to Harvard Yard.
During my stint in Boston, ‘I met a lot of great people and made a lot of money’ but I still hadn’t found that thing that I was meant to do. You know, that thing that moves you.
I’ve worked for companies big and small. TripAdvisor, ExtensionEngine, food entrepreneurs, pastry chefs, and much, much more. While some of these companies were great to work at (and others weren’t), I never really felt I fit in to corporate culture and hated life. I’ve never been good at taking orders or toeing-the-line.
Everything I’ve done has brought me to this place. So what is Kreative.ly? On its face, Kreatively is just another digital marketplace. I’m here today to tell you my friend, that’s much much more than that. It’s the culmination of all my failures & successes.
I built Kreatively to save creatives just like you some of the pain & suffering of living not living up to your full potential. My hope is that by opening a shop, you’ll be able to do to less of what you hate and more of what you love.
So, do you fancy yourself a digital nomad? Maybe you just want to spend more time developing a talent or practicing a hobby, or more time cooking with family. Whatever the case may be, my hope is that Kreatively will – in the immortal words of Tim Ferriss “help you ditch the 9-5, live anywhere, and join the new rich.”
